Hi Friends!  Kauai’s COVID-19 travel rules have changed a lot over the past few weeks, and so we’ve decided to clarify some of the latest COVID-19 restrictions in place on the Garden Island of Kauai.  We can’t wait to have you visit us again as the vaccine will soon lesson restrictions and allow you all to come explore this beautiful island more freely.  But for now, we have the following updates:

  • As of December 18, 2020, we have 12 active COVID-19 cases across the island.  Click here for active case updates from the Official County of Kauai COVID-19 Page;
  • Contact tracing is being utilized to notify and quarantine potentially exposed individuals;
  • As of December 17, 2020, Kauai has announced a 10-day quarantine for all travelers arriving at the Lihue Airport (LIH);
  • The 10-day quarantine rule applies to all incoming travelers who arrived on December 7, 2020 or later;
  • All arriving travelers (visitors and residents) can no longer test-out of quarantine by providing a negative, COVID-19 test result as previously stated in the Hawaii Safe Travels Program which was launched on October 15, 2020 across all of the Hawaiian Islands;
  • For non-residents, the 10-day quarantine must be completed at an approved, “resort bubble” hotel, where guests must wear a GPS monitor to ensure that they remain on site.  Those who violate this rule will be subject to a $5,000 fine and up to a year in jail.  Visitors will not be allowed to complete the quarantine in other types of  lodging (e.g. vacation rental properties advertised on AirBnB, VRBO, etc.);
  • The only exceptions for quarantine are for those travelers who have been given a valid exemption from the State of Hawaii (e.g. essential workers);
  • While in quarantine, visitor and residents are not permitted to obtain a motor vehicle (e.g. automobile, motorcycle, moped, etc.) from any rental agency on Kauai;
  • Under Kauai County law, all persons must wear a “face covering” in the form of a mask, handkerchief, scarf, or shirt.
