See Kauai Humpback Whales

The humpback whales that visit the coast of Kauai can grow up to 18 meters long! They are usually black with white patches on their belly, but sometimes they have mottled grey color. The size is not even what makes them so unique; it’s also the fact that these animals are very active when you see them in the water. They are known to jump, tail slap, and wave their flippers in the air!

This is an experience you don’t want to miss out on! We offer Whale Watching Tours and Snorkeling Excursions.

What To Expect On Your Kauai Whale Watching Adventure

You will be accompanied by a certified guide who has knowledge about the area and can show you where to find whales. Before going out on your tour, we recommend doing some research at home so that you know what their behavior is like (or check out our blog on typical whale behaviors)! You don’t want to miss any of the actions because you didn’t do enough planning beforehand…

Many whales will come very close to the tour boat, but you shouldn’t try to touch them or feed them. The guides know what they are doing and you must follow their instructions! These tours usually last around three hours total. If anything, this is a great opportunity for some amazing photos! Once your Kauai Whale Watching Tour is over, you can check out the island’s beautiful beaches and waterfalls.

The Significance Of Whales On Kauai

Whales are a big part of Hawaiian culture! For example, in ancient times whales were believed to be gods. People would even offer them sacrifices like pigs and bananas so that the sea creatures would not attack their boats while sailing on the water. This is why it’s no surprise you can find many legends about whales throughout Polynesia; however, there are many stories on Kauai.

Whale Watching FAQs

Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced traveler, we have the answers to all your questions! Don’t hesitate to ask us anything and we will be more than happy to help. We can answer any of these:

How long does a Kauai Whale Watching Tour last?

Our whale watching tours last approximately four hours.

What should I wear for my tour and what should I bring with me?

When you join us on your Kauai Whale Watching tour, make sure to bring along sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses, and your camera so you can take some awesome pictures! If the weather is not as good you may also want to bring an extra layer of clothes.

How close to the whales can I get?

You must follow your guide’s instructions so you don’t disturb or scare them. If they tell you not to stand up on the boat, then it means that there is a very good reason for this rule and we advise that everyone follows these guidelines.

Can children participate in whale watching tours?

Of course! These tours are family-friendly, however, we are out on the ocean so please only bring children over the age of 5 years.
