Kauai Sea Caves – Getting There Kauai Sea Cave Boat Tours There are numerous wet and dry caves to tour in Kaua’i, but the most spectacular caves are found on the Nā Pali Coast, where access is only by sea. Here, dramatic sea arches and sea caves have formed in the cliffs as a result
Since the discovery of Kaua'i in 1778 by Captain Cook, the island's lush valleys, high cliffs and soft, sandy beaches have been distinguishing elements in today's fascination with the tropical island. When thinking about the "Garden Island," there is little else that comes to mind. There is however a great past hiding within lava dikes and valleys. While we think of Kaua'i as a paradise, its geology does not emulate a carefree or simple existence. Kauai's past is complex, exciting, dangerous, and as unstable as its future. About 5 million years ago there was a volcanic eruption along the Hawaii-Emperor Volcanic chain. The eruption sparked the beginning of Kauai and ultimately, the beginning of the Hawaiian Islands. Through the volcanic eruptions, the underwater mountain began to rise above the surface. Kauai went through three stages of development: shield, post-shield, and rejuvenation. Read more... Exploring Na Pali Coast and the Open Ceiling Cave Na Pali Coast Kauai Boat Tours- Kaua’i’s Nā Pali Coast is an incredibly alluring coastline, with dramatic cliffs, pinnacles, valleys, and rock ledges. Nā Pali Coast is also the home of several sea caves that smaller boats and kayakers may access. The best time to explore the sea caves is during the summer months. In the winter months, the large and dangerous surf rolling into the Nā Pali Coast makes it difficult to enter the caves safely, so be prepared to view the caves from a safe distance if you are visiting Kaua’i during this time of year. The sea caves along the Nā Pali Coast were formed from the harsh wave action of the Pacific Ocean slamming into the porous lava over millions of years. The resulting hollowed-out caves are best described as dark, mystic, and even spooky, at times. Rigid-hull, inflatable rafts are a popular choice for touring the caves safely, and the thrill of the ride on these vessels makes for an awesome, and memorable experience. The Open-ceiling Cave, also known as Queen’s Bath, is the world’s most impressive example of a littoral sink. Here, the ceiling has collapsed entirely into the sea floor below, creating a cylindrical chamber that measures ~150-feet in diameter. A narrow seaward entrance allows small boats and kayaks to enter the cave and perform a circular route around the interior rock island. The depth inside the Open-ceiling Cave is 65-feet. We invite you to explore Kaua’i’s Nā Pali Coast and get inside sea caves, under waterfalls, and right up close to the coastline's rugged cliffs. Kauai has many boat tours that take passengers up to the Nā Pali Coast, but none tour the entire 17-miles like Na Pali Riders Raft Tours. See the
